CANOLA COUNTRY – YORK

The York Cycling Festival is the perfect mix of time away with family and friends, leisure and of course riding. Picturesque York is just 90 minutes from Perth, experience an awesome weekend with us at the York Cycling Festival – presented by the Shire of York.

FONDO- 54km or 94km

Stage 1: King and Queen of the Mountain

Saturday 24th

Starting from the corner of South and Lowe Street, the Individual Time Trial Hill Climb is 3km in distance. Riders will start in 30-second intervals, travelling along South Street turning left onto Suburban Rd, which turns into Newcastle Street, continuing on Newcastle Street crossing over Panmure Road onto Steer/Pioneer Rd. Finishing on the top of Mount Brown.

Stage 2: Fondo

Sunday 25th

The ride will start from the assembly area at Pioneer Park Race Village and will travel under convoy through town in a 1km neutral section. Riders will then re-group at the Start/finish line on Knotts Road ready to start their event. Riders will travel up Knotts Road becoming Talbot Road and then turn left onto Talbot West Road and then left onto Qualen West Road following this until it meets again with Talbot Road.

Depending on whether you are riding one or two laps of the loop, you will turn here accordingly. The event will finish at the starting point back of Knotts Road.

Stage 1: King and Queen of the Mountain

For the race category Stage 1 is also a platform to be crowned the State Hill Climb Champion and to be in with a chance to take home some prizes thanks to SiS Nutrition for taking out The York Super Segment Challenge.

The State Hill Climb title is being resurrected after many years of absence, but it is back with a bang and there is no better setting than the stunning panoramic views of Mount Brown in York to crown the champions for 2019.

The categories for the State Hill Climb Championship are:

  • Under 15 Men and Women
  • Under 17 Men and Women
  • Under19 Men and Women
  • Open Men and Women
  • 30-39 Men and Women
  • 40-49 Men and Women
  • 50 + Men and Women
Note: only first place recognised

Stage 2: Town Centre Criterium including (plus “Little Critters” ride)

Saturday 24th

The Town Criteriums will start from 12:30pm and run until 6pm. The circuit is 1km in length and riders will travel in an anti-clockwise direction, starting on Avon Terrace and turning left onto South Street, left again onto Lowe Street, left onto Christie Retreat and then left back on to Avon Terrace to finish.

The Little Critters will have their run of the course from 3:45pm. Little Critters is open to children aged 15 and under to ride one lap of the course for free. This is the perfect opportunity for the whole family to get involved! For more information, click through to the Little Critters tab above.

The Terry Driessen Memorial Criterium will commence at 4:20pm and conclude with the presentations at Settlers Tavern at 6pm.

  • Womens C + D Grade – 12:30pm – 25 mins + 2 laps
  • Mens D Grade – 1:10pm – 30 mins + 2 laps
  • Womens B Grade + Mens C Grade – 1:50pm – 35 mins + 2 laps
  • Womens A Grade + Mens B Grade – 2:40pm – 40 mins + 2 laps
  • Penny Farthing Showcase – 3:30pm – 15 mins
  • Little Critters – 3:45pm – 25 mins
  • Terry Driessen Memorial (Mens A Grade) – 4:20pm – 50 mins + 2 laps
  • Presentations – 6pm – Settlers Tavern

 

Stage 3: Graded Road Race

Sunday 25th

The Road Race will start from the assembly area at Pioneer Avon Park Race Village and will travel under convoy through town in 1km neutral section. Riders are to assemble at Pioneer Avon Park at 11:00am and will be leaving for the start line, under convoy at 11:15am. Riders will then re-group at the Start/Finish Line on Knotts Road ready to start their graded events from 11:30am. You’ll travel up Knotts Road becoming Talbot Road and turning left onto Talbot West Road. Continue along Talbot West Road and turn left onto Qualen West Road follow this until it meets again with Talbot Road.

Depending on whether you are racing one, two or three laps of the loop you will turn here accordingly. The race will finish at the starting point back on Knotts Road.

Grades:

  • Mens A Grade (132km) – U19 and above
  • Mens B Grade (94km) – U19 and above (U17’s can race with an exemption form approved)
  • Mens C Grade (54km) – U17 and above (U15’s can race with an exemption form approved)
  • Mens D Grade (54km) – U17 and above (U15’s can race with an exemption form approved)
  • Womens A Grade (94km) – U19 and above (U17’s can race with an exemption form approved)
  • Womens B Grade (54km) – U17 and above (U15’s can race with an exemption form approved)
  • Womens C Grade (54km) – U17 and above (U15’s can race with an exemption form approved)
  • Womens D Grade (54km) – U17 and above (U15’s can race with an exemption form approved)

During the criterium we are running our ever popular Little Critters segment! Little Critters is a FREE lap of the circuit for children aged 15 and under. Children will be chaperoned by parents and coaches, any type of bike is welcome (helmets a must) and creative dress is encouraged. Bring down the whole family and join in the fun! Registrations for Little Critters can be done online HERE or at Pioneer Avon Park on the day.

3:45pm – Little Critters Ride – please be ready to ride at the start/finish line on Avon Terrace near the York Motor Museum 5 minutes prior.

The York Cycling Festival presents a significant opportunity to stake your claim for Road Rider of the Year in your grade. The three stages of The York Cycling Festival mean that you can cement your place or gain some ground on grade leaders, with each stage attracting up to 22 points.
The Mount Brown Hill Climb, Town Centre Canola Criterium and the Road Race will all have 22 points up for grabs. To recap, the points for The Element Race category are awarded in line with the below table.
